Day 1,078: Trump doing exactly what he claimed Obama would do: drawing U.S. into war with Iran

The U.S. killed ruthless Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani in an airstrike at Baghdad’s airport on Friday.

The strike also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iran-backed militias known as the Popular Mobilization Forces, or PMF, the officials said.

Their deaths are a potential turning point in the Middle East and are expected to draw severe retaliation from Iran and the forces it backs in the Middle East against Israel and American interests.

Strikes against Iranian-backed militants led to the U.S. Embassy being attacked and burned just two days ago. There is virtually no chance that Tehran does not respond swiftly and violently to the U.S.’s latest actions against their revered general.

Soleimani wasn’t just some terrorist, he was also a top official in a nation-state, which makes the situation even more complex.

Because there’s a tweet for everything, it’s impossible to see the strike as anything besides Trump doing what he previously claimed Barack Obama would do (but obviously never did).

Trump attacked Iran and is up for reelection in less than 11 months. He has failed for years to negotiate any type of deal.

He celebrated the strike with grainy clip art.
