Day 1,057: Trump, 73, insults teenager because he wasn’t named Time’s Person of the Year and she was
Donald Trump wasn’t named Time magazine’s Person of the Year. Instead, 16-year old environmental activist Greta Thunberg was named by Time as the year’s top events influencer. Trump, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the anonymous whistleblower that revealed Trump’s extortion plot with regard to Ukraine that triggered the impeachment inquiry, and Hong Kong protesters finished as runners-up.
Trump really, really wanted to be named as Person of the Year and took his rage out at Thunberg — who has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder — on Twitter.
The President of the United States is bullying and belittling a Swedish student because an American publication decided that her organization of school strikes for climate change made for a better choice for their Person of the Year than him.
Of course, it was just a week ago that Melania Trump and the rest of the GOP clutched their pearls over a witness innocuously invoking Barron Trump’s name at an impeachment hearing. Melania, apparently missing the irony, has chosen combating cyberbullying as her pet project with a “Be Best” initiative, but has publicly ignored her husband’s tweet.
Apparently, just mentioning a child’s name in congressional halls is off limits but openly bullying other online is perfectly acceptable under that campaign.
Thunberg, not only took the high road against someone five-decades her senior, she responded in a pitch-perfect manner.
