Day 1,055: With articles of impeachment officially introduced, Trump spewed pure hate for over an hour to try and feel better
Democrats in the House of Representatives formally introduced articles of impeachment against Donald Trump Tuesday. The charges are for abuse of power related to withholding aid to Ukraine until they investigated his political foes and obstruction of Congress for illicitly trying to derail the probe at every turn.
Trump swore for over a year, dating back to the Robert Mueller probe, that he would welcome impeachment. That lie was obviously farcical and his antics today at a rally in Hershey, Pennsylvania revealed how brutally he is taking the news.
Unhinged, belligerent, angry and fearful, Trump ranted for 76 long minutes.
Despite doing much of the heavy lifting on negotiating the mechanisms of the North American trade deal, as Trump and his aides sat on the sidelines, Trump wanted credit while also bashing impeachment.
He tried to both lambaste the Washington Post and New York Times and simultaneously claim they would endorse him.
Totally delusional, Trump — who fled the NATO summit early less than a week ago because other world leaders were laughing at him — claimed that the world doesn’t laugh at the U.S. anymore.
He incited his base by claiming following procedures outlined in the Constitution — something he gleefully reminded people about regarding Bill Clinton before the 2016 election — is the equivalent of a coup.
There were conspiracy theories and stupidity abound.
And the lies. So many lies.
There were slurs and hate and anti-immigrant statements. The crowd was mostly whipped into a frenzy, gleefully playing off Trump’s diatribes. Hate building more hate by the thousands as a slurring Trump bounced from topic-to-topic, pointing the finger to everyone but him. The older crowd growing more entrenched in that hate. The younger being welcomed into it.
There was, of course, unseen irony, ,as Trump flipped back to prepared remarks, seemingly oblivious to his more impromptu tangents.
Trump is uniquely dangerous, both in the things he says and does, and what he makes others believe. Tuesday evening was Exhibit 17,332.
