Day 1,052: North Korea reaffirms nuclear desires; here’s a bunch of times Trump swore they were denuclearizing
North Korea has played Donald Trump like a fiddle for three years. Despite three summits that accomplished nothing outside giving Kim Jong-un legitimacy, propaganda and plenty of photo-ops, Pyongyang continues to develop weapons sites.
Now, they’ve reaffirmed their desire to go all the way and develop nuclear weapons, negotiations be damned.
North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations said on Saturday that denuclearization is off the negotiating table with the United States and lengthy talks with Washington are not needed, the starkest statement yet emphasizing the gulf between the two sides ahead of a year-end deadline set by Pyongyang.
U.N. Ambassador Kim Song said in a statement the “sustained and substantial dialogue” sought by the United States was a “time-saving trick” to suit its domestic political agenda, a reference to Trump’s 2020 reelection bid.
“We do not need to have lengthy talks with the U.S. now and denuclearization is already gone out of the negotiating table,” he said.
Trump has proclaimed victory with regards to North Korea policy on many occasions, despite evidence to the contrary. Specifically, he has touted big rollbacks of nuclear weapons and other potential military threats.
Nope.
Wrong.
No progress.
Still true.
Won’t be soon.
Fake progress.
Is he still pretending to be happy?
There has been less than no progress on this issue under Trump. North Korea has received plenty of benefits — including the U.S. canceling important joint military exercises with South Korea — and is just as dangerous, if not more so, than the day Trump took office.
