Day 1,008: Nothing to tout: Even Trump’s favorite poll is showing a plummeting approval rating

Donald Trump’s affinity for cherry-picking favorable polls is well-documented. Typically, he chooses Rasmussen Reports to tout poll numbers, though they not only skew conservative, but have a poor track record with regard to recent accuracy.

Trump isn’t touting Rasmussen too often these days, and that’s because his approval ratings are plummeting, even in their polling. A month ago, Rasmussen polled Trump at a 53% approval rating. Today, that number is down to 44%.

FiveThirtyEight’s composite view of Trump’s approval rating shows a figure even lower, hovering just above 40%. Trump remains historically unpopular, and save for a few random days where he eclipsed Bill Clinton, he has never been more popular than any president at the same point in their time in office since Ronald Reagan about 35 years ago.

Trump can’t find scientific poll numbers to tout because there really aren’t any positive ones out there. Amid an impeachment inquiry that grows more damning by the day, a disastrous decision to abandon the Kurds in Syria, and the attempt to engage in blatantly corrupt conduct by trying to set next year’s G7 summit at one of his properties, Trump is up to his neck in scandals.
