Day -68: Donald Trump is Already Failing
We’re five days out from electing Donald Trump to be the 45th president of the greatest country in the world. In five short days Trump has already lambasted “professional protesters” (whatever that means), trashed the New York Times’ coverage of him (good luck for the next four years), refused to back off his claim of prosecuting Hillary Clinton (bringing up memories of dictators across time and space), is filling out his Cabinet with cronies and insiders (despite his claim he’d “Drain the Swamp”), and generally been all over the map regarding his campaign promises (Obamacare total repeal or partial?) and transition team (Chris Christie out, Mike Pence in as heading the team).
Through all of this, Trump refuses to call for an end to the misogynistic, racist, anti-Semetic, bullying, offensive and/or inflammatory actions and comments his supporters make in his name or referencing his policies. How hard would it be to say “I do not condone these comments or actions, please stop” on Twitter, in a statement or otherwise? (Edit: he did a form of this during his 60 Minutes interview — after claiming he was unaware it was going on — but it needs to be more direct and more often.)
He claimed he was running to help bring the nation together again. Five days after being elected and -68 days in to his presidency, he’s failing already.
-68 days in, 1529 to go.
